You have to respect Pringles for trying to make a pizza flavored chip. They’ve had some success going off the beaten track before, but trying to define and recreate a flavor like ‘pizza’ is bound to be polarizing. A disheartening series of focus groups must have made this clear to the Pringles tastemasters, because they hardly even tried.
If I were describing these like an actual slice of pizza, it would go something like this: the crust is thick, doughy, and bland. What little there is of the ketchup-y sauce is spread as thin as butter on toast. The cheese is a stale, flavorless film of mozzarella. In fact, you could probably recreate this ‘pizza’ pretty accurately with ingredients from your kitchen.
While I applaud Pringles for taking on this challenge, they’ve executed poorly. What they’ve created here isn’t a pizza slice on a potato wafer, but a very underwhelming chip that’s even more disappointing because of how good I hoped it would be. Buy a slice of pizza, buy some other Pringles, but don’t buy these.
