Pringles – Paprika

Pringles go Euro.

For years I’ve been saying it: Paprika flavored chips are going to be the next big thing in American snacking. Thank you Pringles, for fulfilling my prophecy.

As everyone knows, paprika is a spice made from air-dried fruits of the chili pepper family and the species Capsicum Annuum. Being fruit- derived, one serving – approximately 7 chips, per the FDA – is an acceptable substitute for your daily apple/banana/tomato(?). Although paprika is often associated with Hungarian cuisine, the chilies from which it is made are in fact native to the New World – all the more reason for these chips to remain on our shelves.

Similar to your native bar-b-q chip varieties, paprika offers a rich, earthy flavor, but without the smoky aftertaste. This translates to a simpler palate with less intensity. At times this simplicity can be disappointing, but makes these chips versatile for dipping, and they pair well with a lemon hummus.
